Food is an Act of Love
金 威 點 心 Kam Wai has been a part of the evolving face of Chinatown and Vancouver since we opened our doors on Gore St in 1991. A lot has changed in the neighbourhood since then, and we’ve changed with it; but the importance of food, family and connection remain a central part of who we are as a family-run company. Family takes on many shapes and sizes but all of us can connect over a warm, delicious meal. For us both personally and as a company, food will always be an act of love.

Dim sum (點 心) can be translated to “A Little Touch of Heart” and we have baked that into the foundation of our company. We believe in creating a product that is accessible, affordable and – most importantly – delicious. At its core, dim sum is about connection: sharing food, tea, and company.
金 威 – Golden Strength
We work hard to help people find that connection; to family, to culture, and to ourselves. Our name, Kam Wai (金 威) is best interpreted as “Golden Strength”. For us this has come to represent the resilience and richness of the living cultures of Chinese Canadians.
Kam Wai has something for everyone. Our door is brightened daily by long-time customers from the neighbourhood who have been coming to us for 30 years and have made us a part of their traditions. And we also welcome brand new customers every day who are reconnecting to their culture, or who are trying a taste of dim sum for the very first time. We strive to be a community hub where people can learn, connect, and grow.

Kam Wai Dim Sum is located on the ancestral, traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. We believe Black, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQ communities are not only important, but are vital in their contributions to Chinatown’s culture, to Vancouver, and to our society at large, and we expressly welcome members of these communities as part of our family. We work, live, and care for each other on these lands, with gratitude and humility.
